Process

How a finish is made

Most paint failures start before the first coat. We spend the time on preparation.

  1. Inspect

We assess the existing coating and note oxidation, chalking and peeling.

  2. Clean & sand

Dirt, salt and loose paint come off. Rough areas are sanded smooth.

  3. Mask & prime

Glass, stone and surrounding surfaces are masked. A bonding primer made for metal goes on first.

  4. Finish coats

Multiple spray-applied coats build an even, uniform finish.

  5. Walkthrough

We clean up completely and review the work with you before we leave.

On the coast

Made for salt air

Sun, salt and humidity break aluminum finishes down faster on the water. Chalking, fading and oxidation follow. Careful preparation is what keeps a coastal finish looking new.

A fresh-water rinse every few months keeps it that way.

Questions

Before you call

What does aluminum painting cost?

It depends on the size of the job, the condition of the existing finish, access and whether the color changes. We give a written quote after seeing the property.

Do you remove railings or windows to paint them?

No. Everything is painted in place. Glass, stone and surrounding surfaces are masked before any coating goes on.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes. Every job comes with a written three-year warranty on our workmanship. If the paint peels, flakes or blisters, we come back and fix it. The warranty covers the paint job, not the aluminum itself or its installation, and it doesn't cover normal fading, damage, or rust coming from corrosion that was already in the metal. On waterfront properties, rinse the aluminum with fresh water every three months to keep the coverage.

How do you deal with salt near the ocean?

Salt is what breaks a finish down. We wash it out of every joint before priming, and a fresh-water rinse every few months keeps it from building up again.

Do you work in condominium buildings?

Yes. We work with residents, boards and property managers, and schedule around building rules and access.
